GPT-4O : Is it too early?
OpenAI which is the creater of the generative artificial Intelligence model called ChatGPT has launched another model called GPT-4O. This new model stands for Generative pre trained transformer – 4 Omni. The model can take inputs in any combination of text, audio, image and video and also provide the output in any combination of same formats. This model has received accolades around the world for its fantastic performance and abilities which humans might have only imagined to be possible. The pivotal question at hand is whether this technological advancement is occurring too swiftly, or if it represents an appropriate pace of growth???
Features of GPT – 4O
Chatgpt was launched by OpenAI on 30th November 2022 and and within less than just 2 years there are already 4 models of Chatgpt with 4O being the latest addition to GPT – 4 models. Talking about the features of the model, 4O can mimic human like verbal responses, allowing realtime interactions, diverse voice generations, harmonizing them and providing instant translations. It can process audio inputs in just 230 milliseconds with an average of 320 milliseconds which is very close to human reaction time. GPT 4O can understand human emotions and respond accordingly. It is very similar to talking to any other person lets say via a video call. The model can make sarcastic jokes, help you prepare for interviews, talk to another AI, can be your professor, replace an entire customer service centre, do real time translations, mimic voices and what not.
IT IS LITERALLY ANOTHER HUMAN BEING BEHIND YOUR CAMERA….
What disruptions can this update bring?
Well, as per the demo videos which has been published on OpenAI’s website it seems that there are a lot of disruptions already lined up to happen. Customer service might take a hit as this model can handle any queries in real time just like a human and that too in any language. Edtech industry can take a hit as GPT – 4O can be your school, college, professor, tutor etc. While software developers were already being questioned for replacement after the launch of ChatGPT but with this model the question looks to turn more into a reality. But the reality will only be seen once the model is live to be used by people and the quality of output it produces.
The Question: Was it too soon??
While it’s certainly a significant milestone for humanity to achieve such rapid progress in the field of AI, it’s crucial to acknowledge the drawbacks that come with it. Since the launch of ChatGPT, we’ve seen a trend where many people opt for the easy route, relying on simple prompts rather than engaging in the hard work required for tasks. This shift has already begun to impact our critical thinking abilities, and with the introduction of even more advanced models like GPT-4O, this effect is likely to become more pronounced. Additionally, existing AI technology has been exploited for various illegal activities such as scams, frauds, and deepfakes. The emergence of models like GPT-4O may further facilitate such activities and only reduce the work of the people who promote such activities
I hope we do not lead to the point where distinguishing between genuine and artificially generated content becomes next to impossible.
